I don’t know what inspired you to start looking for a way to make money from home, however in my case it was not inspiration, it was desperation – the photo you see there on the left was a much MUCH younger me, and it was the photo I first used when I first got started in the home-based industry with my first Home Based Business back in 2001.

What inspired me to actually take action and then go ahead and start something was a massive dose of Rage.

This was because back in 2000 I seriously damaged virtually all of my discs in my lower back in a work related incident , and then to cut a very long story short found myself a year later without a job and forced to live on Sickness Benefits.

I was only 33 at the time and as my injury meant I could not sit, or stand, or walk for extended periods of time without my legs giving way, finding another normal 9-5 job was not an option for me anymore.

As you can imagine I did NOT want to spend the rest of my life having to live on Sickness Benefits.

For one I had dreams of one day moving to the Country and of starting a family and that was NOT going to happen surviving on $300 per month.

What made me say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH however was in June 2001 I received a report from my employers Surgeon in the mail who had examined me.

In his report he wrote and I quote as it has been burned in my memory for all time ‘…Cristina’s symptoms are bizarre and florid which leads me to believe that she simply does not want to work anymore.”

Nothing could have been further from the truth.

I was stunned, shocked and then the RAGE kicked in.

I have never felt such rage in my life and have never rage quite like that again.

That was my moment.

And it was those horrendous words which ’inspired’ me to find a way to be able to work from home…

…as it hit me like a ton of bricks that no one was going to take care of me.

I could not depend on my employer to do the right thing by me, on the Government, on lawyers or as mind blowing as it was to me at the time not even the medical profession.

I realised that if I wanted things to change I had to change.

I had to stop behaving like a victim and stop my year long self pity party and find a way to take back control of my life again on my own terms.

When I first started online back in August 2001 I literally maxed out a $7,000 credit card limit just to join my first home business opportunity which was with an old school MLM Company you may have heard of called Herbalife.

I had never done anything online before, and taught myself through trial and error how to market online effectively.

I was so driven to get off Sickness Benefits, and to prove that Surgeon wrong I worked 12-14 and sometimes even 16 hour days to build my Herbalife business.

Unlike many who live with Chronic Back Pain I was lucky. Even though my discs were all damaged I would stil get relief lying down so I rarely needed to take any pain management medication.

I could not depend on my back however my mind was all mine.

Those times my back would flare up and I couldn’t sit at my desk I would simply work on my tummy on a mattress on the floor in our lounge room.

You may have heard it said that with your usual MLM Company it’s a 3-5 year plan to get to 6-Figures a year and this certainly was the case for me with Herbalife.

My first year I earned a big fat ZERO in profit.

That’s not to say I didn’t make money I did.

I spent the first 6 months building a customer base of over 80 customers to give me the cashflow I needed to be able to start building an organisation.  That first year I reinvested everything I earned from my business back into my business to grow it.

In fact I realized after I got started with Empower that I was lucky I joined the organisation I did at the time. My upline Presidents Team Member released a direct response system I got to use to start building an organisation and that system did 100% of the selling for me much like what my Newbies get to use now with our Empower Network System and our Team Only Marketing System.

The system I used in those days to do my recruiting meant I did not have to speak to anyone until they became a customer by ordering a low cost CD, and with the benefit of hinesight I know if I had of been responsible for all of my own follow up with my leads in those early days I would not have had anyone join me either…or at best it would have taken much MUCH longer to succeed.

Even so being a complete Newbie and since in no way was the back end support as sophisticated as what we have with Empower I thought about quiting many a time, however my desire to get off sickness benefits was far greater.

My partner and I one day wanted to move to the Country and have children and I knew that would not be possible unless I was able to somehow replace my previous income.

Sure probably like you I heard all the success stories of people making ridiculous sums of money, however for me making tons of money was not my goal at all. I just wanted to make enough to be able to support myself again, so I hung in there and I’m so glad I did because then…

…my second year I made around $69,000 in profit which replaced the income I used to make from my job and then allowed me to finally say bye bye to being on Sickness Benefits!

I will never forget the day I walked into my local Centre Link and told them they didn’t need to pay me Sickness Benefits anymore.

It made everything I went through that first year well and truly worth it.

…then by the end of my third year I cracked over $100,000 a year in profit and by the end of my fourth year I started making multiple six -figures a year in pure profit.

Getting really personal now, by the time I had replaced my previous income I had learned to think bigger so with that goal achieved I then set a private goal that when I received my first $20,000 USD cheque in the mail I would then take a copy of it, and send it to that Surgeon, however when that finally happened in my third year I no longer cared.

Sending him a copy of my cheque was no longer an issue, and if anything I’m grateful to him as if he had not written what he had I may of never entered the home-based industry, or if I had I would have quit long before.

This is because I built my first business from a mattress on the floor, using a laptop and a phone, and whilst in and out of acute pain!

Literally went from Zero to generating over 2 million in sales a year for my first company with an organisation of hundreds of people mainly in the UK.

Why the UK?

Well, since I knew I would not physically be able to attend any of the events or meetings Herbalife held (much like now with Empower) that would have been hard to stomach if my team were all based here in Australia.

So when I started marketing I chose to build an organisation mainly in the UK.

It was not easy as I literally invested many hours on the phone at all sorts of insane hours to be able to mentor my UK team effectively – my phone bill in those days was over 2K per month some months.

Please understand I’m not sharing my story to brag, I know that if you are considering working with me in Empower ( and then once we have got you making money in Family IQ)  you need to know that you will be working with someone who has done it and is doing it right now successfully too.

I always thought I would be with Herbalife forever but that ended up not being the case.

After five years of being in and out of acute pain, when I was only about 4,000 volume points short of doing Presidents Team Legs I decided to go into ‘retirement’,  as the stress involved in managing and building an old school 3-5 year plan MLM like Herbalife was just too much for my back to take.

Let’s face it there is more to life than money.

After all what’s the point in earning $20K + per month if you can’t leave the house?

One of the things I love most about Empower is you can achieve a 5-Figure Monthly income working part time so you can still enjoy a life!

So in 2006 I then moved onto doing less stressful ways of earning an income online as I was starting to get really clucky and then wanted to have the time to be able to enjoy my children.

I started doing affiliate marketing within the biz opp niche,  and I tell you what after doing one thing for five years that was an experience as it was not long before I discovered that most biz opp affiliate programs are not built to last.

I quickly discovered the hard way that I needed to market a few complimentary biz opps at once to cover my back.

In 2009  because of the unpredictability of the biz opp industry at the time I also started releasing my own products and services like OutbackTraffic.com and NewbieInstantSiteCreator.com to support people involved in the home-based industry.

In December 2010 I joined Family IQ and ONLY marketing Family IQ until March 30th 2012 when I joined Empower.

After a few weeks of marketing Empower it became very clear Empower had to be my new front end. This is because I found Newbies who had never done anything online before struggled to get results with Family IQ and it was only my experienced team members that were able to generate results. This is the way it is with all High Ticket programs really so nothing against Family IQ at all.

After I realized that Empower had the kind of system I was lucky enough to use when I first started online and when I saw more Newbies were making their first sales and more with Empower I knew I had to make Empower my main focus.

Now my life could not be more different.

I have two beautiful girls under four, Eva and Lara, and they are my world and the most important reason why I do what I do now online.

Sometimes I still have to pinch myself, as in many ways my back injury was was the best thing that ever happened to me and as wonderful as it would be for my back to be normal again if that hadn’t of happened it’s unlikely I ever would have gotten online, I’d probably never been able to afford to have children, and I certainly would not own the home I do now nor would I be making the kind of money I do now in a ‘job’.

Seriously I was not born with a silver spoon. I didn’t have rich parents. My mother was a Maid and my father was a Taxi Driver and then a Bus Driver.

I started working as a CheckOut Girl as soon as I could when I was 14 and lied about my age to do so.

I never went to University as at the time my mother could not afford to send me and I couldn’t afford to pay for it myself.

What my wonderful, inspirational mother could afford was to give me lots of love and encouragement that frankly was priceless to me.

When I first started online  I was living in a small two bed-room unit with my partner in a suburb called Newport in Melboure as pictured here:-

Thanks to what I earned with Herbalife we were able to fulfil our dream of moving to the country, to a town called Woodend which is about an hours drive out of Melbourne.

We brought our first house above in Woodend and lived there 6 years.

The house was on 4 acres a few kilometres out of Town which was a wonderful life experience but not very practicle for someone with a dodgy back.

I couldn’t even walk up and down our driveway to get the mail without it upsetting my back and prolapsed a disc so dramatically in 2005 I needed to have my first Spinal Surgery.  After a number of other set backs with my back it became clear living on acres was not practical so as difficult as the decision was in  late 2010 we decided to sell up and move somewhere in walking distance to Town and in a much flatter part of Woodend.

Even though Woodend is renowned for being tightly held we found the perfect house only a five minute walk into Town and in a much MUCH flatter part of Woodend.

We moved into our new home with our daughters in January 2011.

Not only was our newly renovated 4 bedroom home  in walking distance to Town it is also on a far more managable 1/4 acre and here is a view from our Balcony:-

I’m also no Guru, who lives in some ridiculously huge Mansion, as fancy cars and fancy houses don’t do it for me.

Being able to live a comfortable life which allows my family to achieve their full potential and allows us to contribute in other ways does.

Once again I’m also not sharing ANY of this to brag as that is not my style.

I’m sharing how this industry has changed my life with you because the truth is if I can do it, no matter what you may be going through in your personal life, you can too.

It does not matter where you are starting from, if you are genuine, and ready, you can change your life too. You can do it no matter what other people may say to you. You just need to believe you can.

And believe me it is worth it, so worth it, as I have gained so much more over the past 11 years than just money.

Let’s face it the benefit of having money is the fact it allows you to not have to worry about paying the bills etc, and instead it frees up your mind to be able to live your lifes purpose whatever that maybe for you.

For me I know that I am a teacher at heart, and that I was put on this planet to help people overcome pain.

Not just physical pain but also emotional pain and that’s why I do what I do as I love helping people get where they want to go and be who they are supposed to be if ‘money’ was not an issue.

Sometimes the worst things that happen to you, can end up being one of the best things that happen to you, and this has certainly proven to be the case for me, so never EVER lose hope, as no matter what you are going though personally, often the reason why you had to go through it will not become clear until much later, however believe me you can turn any situation into something positive and even magical if you are willing to not allow it to stop you or destroy you, or allow it to make you give up on yourself.

I gain a lot of comfort as well as inspiration from music, in fact I have a never ending love of music which is why on my Blog I always have a music video of the month and often will share some of my favourite tracks in the Music Video/Reviews catagory.

One song that helped me get through a very difficult time when I had injured my back in further just before we moved into our new home. I was literally in 24/7 nerve pain until I had my 2nd spinal surgery in May 2011 and what helped me get through that period was a brilliant song by one of my favourite American bands called A Fine Frenzy.

I think anyone that chooses to work for themselves needs to have hope.

Needs to be able to see what they want to achieve before it happens.

And needs to believe that it can happen because it can.
